Novartis to invest in China drug laboratory

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis AG is expected to announce Monday plans to build a $100 million drug research and development center in China, according to a media report.

Construction on the research facility to be located in Shanghai's Pudong district is scheduled to begin in July, The Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition. See Wall Street Journal story (subscription required)

The facility is expected to employ up to 400 scientists, The Journal said.
